Our Compassion Adventure: A detour to India

Clearly, my heart is in Honduras, and I will never stop advocating for children in that country (in fact, I currently have 2 boys available and a few child packets for older Honduran girls are on their way to me).

But a few days ago, someone on OurCompassion posted about a project in India that is located in the Red Light District, and it definitely caught my attention.

The children in this project are in a very dangerous situation. The average income in their community is $34 per month, and while most adults are unemployed, some are employed as sex workers. The community is even called "Miraj Red Light Area," highlighting the desperation there.

I contacted Compassion to ask if any children were available from this project, and I was astounded by what I learned: over 100 children are waiting for sponsors. 49 of those children are girls.

I feel especially drawn to the girls anyway, primarily because of how highly vulnerable they must be in the Red Light District. I'm sure that sexual abuse is rampant, and I'm sure that this is a common career path for these young girls to pursue...

That being said, I have a number of child packets coming to me, and all are girls from this project.

My dream is to see every girl sponsored by a loving individual who will speak hope and opportunity into their lives. I feel like they (and their families) need extra encouragement. They live in such a high risk area, it makes me feel sick.
